Care Guide – Alocasia micholitziana ‘Frydek Variegata’
Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the delicate, variegated leaves. A north- or east-facing window works great, or filtered light through a sheer curtain.
Water
Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of soil feels dry. Reduce watering during winter dormancy. Always use pots with drainage holes.
Humidity
High humidity (60–80%) is key. Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or group with other plants to maintain moisture in the air. Dry air can cause leaf edges to brown.
Temperature
Prefers warm temps between 18–27°C (65–80°F). Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes. Never let it drop below 15°C (59°F).
Soil
Use a well-draining aroid mix: 1 part potting soil, 1 part perlite, 1 part orchid bark. The roots love oxygen and dislike compacted or soggy soil.
Feeding
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer. Avoid overfeeding, especially in winter.
Growth Tips
Frydek Variegata may go dormant in winter—this is normal. Leaves may yellow and drop, but the plant will bounce back with proper care in spring.
Pest Watch
Check regularly for spider mites, thrips, and mealybugs. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth and use neem oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
